Oscar D. George Sr. 86, of Harpers Ferry, WV passed away at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. He was the husband of Nellie Fisher George of Moorefield. They were married on October 31, 1955, 62 years. Born September 1, 1931 in Keyser, WV, he was the son of Bessie George Koontz. Surviving in addition to his wife are three children Dave George and wife Cheri of Wytheville, VA; Brenda Harlow and husband Dale of Middletown, MD; Tena Toms and husband Kirby of Rocky Gap, VA. He is also survived by four grandchildren Misti Lantz and husband Daryl of Inwood, WV; Amy Ausherman and husband Kevin of Middletown, MD; Jason Toms of Rocky Gap, VA; and Dave George of Harpers Ferry, WV. Also surviving are four great grandchildren Tyler and Wylie Bush, Kaitlyn Ausherman, and Gracie George. He is survived by a brother Malin Koontz and a sister Bonnie Hartman both of Moorefield, WV. Proceeded in death by his mother, brothers Leo George, Willie Koontz, Carter Koontz, and sister Dora Lee Wratchford. Oscar served in the US Army July 1950 to July 1953. While in the Army he served his country in the Korean War. During that time he earned several medals and honors including the Army of Occupation Medal for serving in Japan, the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Army Good Conduct medal. He was a construction worker and the greatest accomplishment of his career was working on the new Chesapeake Bay Bridge. He was a member of the Pleasant View Church of the Brethren in Burkittsville, MD. Private viewing will be for the family only.
