Basil Ray Murphy, a beloved son, brother, and father, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2024, at the age of 51 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. He was born on May 27, 1972, in Fairmont, West Virginia, to the late Johnnie Mac Murphy and Patricia Ann Haney Murphy.

 

Basil's life was defined by his unwavering dedication and commitment to his family, friends, and community. After graduating from Moorefield High School in 1990, he channeled his intelligence and passion into a successful career as a Project Manager in the construction industry, leaving a lasting impact through his diligent work.

 

Outside of his professional endeavors, Basil found solace in the simple joys of life. He had a strong love for sports, both playing and watching, and found great peace in nature, particularly when fishing. His infectious laughter and warm presence brightened family gatherings and created countless cherished memories.

 

Basil leaves behind a legacy that will continue to unfold through his loved ones. He is survived by his sons, Tyler (Katie) Murphy, Lucas (Brittany) Clem, Zachary Clem and James Brokell, who will carry on his spirit of determination and perseverance. He is also survived by his devoted brothers, David Oiler, Charles "Bob" Oiler, and John "Jake" Oiler, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Their lives have been enriched by Basil's love, support, and guidance.

 

While the pain of Basil's loss is immeasurable, his memory will be eternally treasured by those who had the privilege to know him. His passing will undoubtedly leave a void in the lives of those who relied on his wisdom and kindness.
