Obituary

Burr Daryl Hartman, age 87, of Moorefield, WV, passed away Saturday morning, October 3, 2026, at Hampshire Center in Romney, WV. Born on February 13, 1939, in Purgitsville, WV, he was a son of the late Burr Hartman and Carrie Virginia Davy Hartman. His wife, Anna Marie Riley Hartman, preceded him in death in January 2008. A granddaughter Lillie Marie High, three sisters and four brothers also preceded him in death.

Burr was a proud 1958 graduate of Romney High School and dedicated 41 years of his life as a truck driver for American Woodmark Corporation. His contributions extended beyond the workplace; he was an Honorary Member of the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Company 46 and a true friend to neighbors, often lending a hand—or a brush—to help paint their house. Known for his keen eye on woodworking, Burr also loved to spend quiet moments feeding the deer that visited his yard.

A talented storyteller gifted with a knack for spinning tales, Burr had an extraordinary ability to captivate his audience, and nothing brought him more joy than the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving is a son, Burr D. Hartman, II (Terry); three daughters, Tess Runions, Patti Shoemaker (Denny), Billie-Jo High (Kenny); seven grandchildren, Amanda Runions, Patrick Shoemaker (Nicole), Sarah See (Josh), Andrew Strosnider, Bubby High, Tatie High (Jack), and Jeffrey Runions and, seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington street with Pastor D. J. Taylor officiant. Interment will follow in the Olivet Cemetery. In keeping with his generous spirit, friends and family will gather to celebrate his life, sharing laughter and stories that honor the impact he made on so many. The family will welcome visitors to pay their respects from 4 – 7 PM on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the funeral home.
