Obituary

Carl Wayne Sherman Sr, age 82 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Friday, July 10, 2026, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV. Born October 19, 1943, in Moorefield, WV, he was the son of the late Ocie Eugene Sherman and Nellie Grace (Crites) Sherman. He was preceded in death by his wife Rose Lee Kimble Sherman; a son, Carl Wayne Sherman Jr; son-in-law Mark Flinn; sisters, Mary Ann Ganoe and Josephine "Duckie" Conrad; and a brother Ray "Mutt" Sherman and his beloved dog, Bear.

Carl lived a vibrant life, filled with laughter, love, and the joy of family. He worked at Pilgrim’s Pride (Rockingham Poultry) starting in 1973, where he made lasting friendships while booming down loads on trucks. After retiring, Carl enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, often found on his front porch, savoring his favorite chocolate treats and cheering on the Washington Nationals or watching an old western.

Surviving are his daughters; Penny (Rick) Halterman and Lara (Todd) Tanner; a "son" he raised, Charles "Chuckie" Whetzel; grandchildren, Alicia (Robbie) Riggleman, Cassandra Harman, Kenneth Sherman, Brittany (Eugene) Rinker, Dylan (Hunter) Flinn, Sumer (Jesse) Miller & Trace Tanner; great-grandchildren, Kiersten, Tristen, Ashlen, Brycen, Riley Maddie, Carlie, Aiden, Wren, Kayla, Maverick and Maddox; four brothers, Neil Sherman, Eugene Sherman, Wendell Sherman and Woodrow Sherman; and three sisters, Carol Crites, Susan Kyle and Elizabeth Martin and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Pastors Brad Taylor and Elizabeth "Libby" Martin as officiants. Private Interment will be in the Kimble Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
