Charles Edwin "Bud" Champ, Sr., age 82 of Purgitsville, WV, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, October 22, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by family, and under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle. Born on April 23, 1941, at home in Medley, WV, he was a son of the late Quinten Arthur Champ and Bessie Florence Layton Champ. A son, Charles E. Charles was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the "Big Red One" First Infantry Division, stationed out of Fort Riley, Kansas. During his service, he completed a tour in Europe, stationed in Berlin, Germany.

Charles was a lifelong logger and was known for his honesty, generosity and hard work. He was an avid fisherman and spent many days at his favorite fishing spot with his friend Doug George who always took the time to make sure he got to go fishing, even as his health declined. After retiring, he and his wife enjoyed attending auctions and collecting glassware; he and his wife, Dottie were the owners of Dot's What Not Shop in Purgitsville, WV. Charles was quite the storyteller, and his home was always open to anyone who passed by and who more than not, left with an invitation to return soon. His two grandsons were the lights of his life and his pride in them was immeasurable.
