Charlie Benjamin Vance

Charlie Benjamin Vance, age 87 of Magnolia Street, Moorefield, WV, passed away Thursday morning, October 7, 2021 at his residence. Born on June 14, 1934 in Hardy County, WV, he was a son of the late Loring Hugh Vance, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Weese Vance. A sister, Dorothy Michael and a step-grandson, Keith Michael also preceded him in death. Charlie was a member of the Moorefield Church of the Brethren where he taught Sunday School for many years, was a member of their choir along with the Potomac Valley Men’s Choir.

Charlie was a graduate of Moorefield High Scholl Class of 1952, was a founding member of the “Cat Alley Gang”, a pitcher for the Durgon Darts and retired as a Bridge Inspector for the WV DOH. He enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Washington Nationals, was a Little League coach for many years, enjoyed all WVU sports, gardening and fishing. In the 1960’s, he was an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 60 BSA.

Surviving is his loving wife of 36 years, Janet Lee Pennington Vance; two sons, Greg Vance and Jeff (Maddy) Vance of Moorefield, WV; a step-son, Chip (Bobbi) Michael of Frostburg, MD; a step-daughter, Missy (Vic) Shockey of Moorefield, WV; a brother, Loring Jim Vance of Mathias, WV; four grandchildren, Cara Vance, Justin Vance, Ben Vance & Jackson Vance; three great-grandchildren, Caden, Joselyn & Cole; three step-grandchildren, Zach Michael, Brandon Shockey and Shannon Shockey; a niece and a nephew.

Funeral Services will be conducted 2:00 PM, Monday, October 11, 2021 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Pastor Russell Webster officiant. Interment will follow in the Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM Monday until time of services at 2:00 PM.

Due to the current COVID-19 recommendations, wearing of masks and social distancing by individuals unvaccinated is recommended.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of donor’s choice.
