Darell William “Billy” Shockey, age 88 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Sunday evening, January 4, 2026, at his residence. Born on July 1, 1937, near Moorefield, WV, he was the son of the late William Easton Shockey and Eliza Catherine Fitzwater Shockey. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Pearl Marie Crawford Shockey in May 2012 as well as two sisters, Elva Wratchford and Evelyn Ratliff.
Billy led a wonderful life filled with adventure. A true lover of the outdoors, he cherished the thrill of hunting and fishing. He was an avid gardener. Even after moving to town, his passion for gardening flourished in the backyard, bringing fresh produce to the table. A skilled carpenter and woodworker, Billy's hands were never idle. He loved baseball and the Atlanta Braves and became a familiar face at MHS girls’ softball games. Billy always had a joke to tell and never met a stranger.
After retiring from the WV Department of Highways’ Sign Shop, Billy remained an active part of the community by working at Brighton Park until his health no longer permitted. He was known to spend his free time enjoying old westerns on television, attending church services up to three times a week, and enjoying the camaraderie of weekly card games with friends.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Carol Sue Zuber of Moorefield, WV; brothers, Loring “Jimmy” (Ruby) Shockey of Moorefield, WV and Blaine (Darlene) Shockey of Moorefield, WV; sisters, Alma Coby of Moorefield, WV, Ruth Evans of Old Fields, WV and Pearl (Milton) Bosley of Moorefield, WV.
Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, January 9, 2026, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Pastor Jon Leininger officiant. Interment will follow in the Olivet Cemetery. Family and friends will have the opportunity to gather for visitation from 4 – 7 PM on Thursday at the funeral home, sharing stories and celebrating a life that touched so many.
