Deborah Sue Conrad, age 61 of Charleston, WV formerly of Morgantown, WV, passed away Thursday afternoon at her residence. Born on August 19, 1962, in Tacoma Park, MD, she was a daughter of the late Delmer Wayne Conrad and Jeannette Sue Meddings Conrad. She was also preceded in death by her in-laws, Billy Lannon and Jeannie Lanon.
Deb was a graduate of Union High School Class of 1981. During her years there from 1977 – 1981, she was a member of the girls’ basketball team, averaging 25.4 points per game. With 2004 career points, she was the 1st WV Girl to score over 2000 career points. She was Honorable Mention All-State in her Freshman & Sophomore years and 1st Team All-State in her Junior and Senior years. She was All-American in 1981 and 1st Team Potomac Valley Conference for 4 continuous years.
She was the M.V.P. of the WV – MD All Star Classic, and a recipient of the Wade Medal & Trophy. Her Jersey #12 was retired on May 7, 1989, at Union. Her high school basketball career was nothing short of legendary, with numerous accolades and achievements that solidified her as a true sports icon. A graduate of West Virginia University, she was a “lifelong” WVU fan. She was quite known for larger-than-life infectious laugh and smile, a loving, caring person.
Surviving is her wife, Eva Hafer; a brother, Tony (Kim) Conrad of Burnsville, WV; a sister, Michelle (Adam) Myers of Moorefield, WV; nieces & nephews, Brittany (Adrian) Duelley, Katie (Jake) Hehl, Tony Conrad and Blake Conrad; also surviving is an uncle, Dana Conrad of Parkersburg, WV; an aunt, Charlotte (Steve) Meddings Turner of Middlebourne WV and several great nieces and a great nephew. Not to forget her fur-babies, Tadpole, Scooter, Bella, Zeus & Max, they were her children.
A Celebration of Life will be held 4:00 PM Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street. Family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
Memorials in her honor may be given to any animal shelter of the donor’s choice.
