Donald Edward Smith, age 64 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Sunday morning, May 17, 2026, at his daughter’s residence. Born on June 1, 1961, in Winchester, VA, he was the son of the late James Edward Smith & Dawson J. Shanholtz, Jr. and Ida may Snyder Smith Shanholtz. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Janet Diane and a brother, James Allen Smith.
Donald was a man of great compassion who dedicated his life to helping others. He had a natural talent for carpentry and loved presenting his handiwork as gifts to friends and relatives. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in hunting, but his greatest pleasure came from his devotion to his family and his church. The cherished moments spent with his grandchildren were truly the highlight of his life.
Surviving is his loving wife of 49 years, Delores Mae Kesner Kuykendall Smith; two sons, Junior (Angie) Smith of Moorefield, WV and Rocky (Jenny) Smith of Petersburg, WV; a daughter, Ida (Aaron) Smith of Petersburg, WV; two brothers, his twin, Ronald (Norma) Smith of Slanesville, WV and John Boy (Tanga) Belt of Moorefield, WV; three sisters, Deborah Hines of Augusta, WV, Mary Mongold of Kearneysville, WV and Pamela Shanholtz of Hedgesville, WV; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Moorefield Church of God, located at 223 S Elm Street, where friends and family will come together to share stories and memories of this extraordinary man. Pastors Josh Pickett and Daryl Dunsmore will officiate the service. Prior to the ceremony, the family will welcome visitors from 11:00 AM until the service begins, providing a time for shared laughter and tears in honor of Donald’s life. Following the service, we will gather for interment at the Newhouse Cemetery.
