Obituary

Duane Allen Vetter, age 66 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Monday morning, September 7, 2026, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. Born January 10, 1960, in Petersburg, WV, he was the son of Delores Gail Brooks Vetter of Moorefield, WV and the late Stanley Howard Vetter.

Duane spent his career working with his hands as a skilled welder for 30+ years for PCM in Altavista, VA, where his strong work ethic and dependability earned the respect of his coworkers and community. Duane was a creature of comfortable habit with a wonderful sense of humor and a smile for everyone he met. He was a daily fixture at the Sunset Restaurant, where he enjoyed his hot tea, good conversation, and the company of friends. He was always happy to lend the waitresses a helping hand and was never in much of a hurry when good conversation was happening. He enjoyed the simple routines of life, including eventually heading home to watch one of his favorite shows, The Price Is Right.

Duane lived life outdoors and on the move. When he wasn't hard at work, he could usually be found hunting in the woods, casting a fishing line in the water, or taking in the open road on his motorcycle. He was a proud supporter of local sports and rarely passed up the chance to sit in the stands and cheer for his grandchildren during their ballgames. He also looked forward to the sights and sounds of county fairs and carnivals, especially if there was live bluegrass music filling the air.

Above all his passions, Duane's heart belonged to his family. He was a devoted father, brother, and uncle, but his greatest joy came from being a grandfather. His grandchildren brought an unmistakable sparkle to his eye, and he treasured every moment spent watching them grow.

Surviving in addition to his mother is a son, Duane A. Vetter, II (Sadie) of Maysville, WV; a daughter, Angela Vetter of Yellow Springs, WV; two step-daughters, Joyce Mongold (Jeremy) of Moorefield, WV, and Tammy Scaffidi of Edgewood, MD; two brothers, Bradley Vetter (Patricia) of Moorefield, WV and Marshall Vetter (Bobbie) of Fisher, WV; a sister, Gail Pavan (Jeff) of Fisher, WV; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00AM Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street, Moorefield, WV, with Pastor Tommy George officiant. Interment will follow in the Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 - 7 PM on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the funeral home.
