Julia Ellen Harwood, age 66 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Monday afternoon, August 17, 2026, at the Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg, WV. Born on May 14, 1960, in Cumberland, MD, she was the daughter of the late Mask Maupin Harwood, Jr. and Naomi Ruth Taylor Harwood.
Ellen lived a life filled with laughter and service. She was often seen at the wheel of the school bus for EACHS, where her infectious smile and caring nature eagerly transported countless children to school each day. Her impact transcended her role as a bus driver, as she was known for her kind heart and ability to connect with parents and children alike.
A past member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #64, and the Women of the MOOSE, Ellen had a zest for life and community service that brought people together. She also spent time working at Walmart and the Grant County Nursing Home, where she forged enduring relationships and touched many lives.
Surviving are three brothers, Mask M. “Skip” Harwood, III of Martinsburg, WV, Timothy J. Harwood of Moorefield, WV and Robert T. Harwood of Aldie, VA; a niece; several nephews and numerous cousins.
In celebration of Ellen’s remarkable life, family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel located at 107 Washington Street. Pastor David Stephens will officiate the ceremony, and everyone is invited to share stories and memories that highlight the joy Ellen brought to their lives. The family will welcome guests for a time of visitation starting at 5:00 PM until the service begins.
To honor Ellen and the indelible mark she made on all of us, we encourage those attending to visit her Tribute Wall online at www.fraleyfuneralhome.com, where memories and photos can be shared, allowing her spirit to shine bright in our hearts.
