Elouise Rebecca (Wolfe) Cowger age 94, of Moorefield, WV passed away on July 16, 2021, at the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, Fredericksburg, Va. Elouise was born on April 22, 1927 on Wolfe Mountain at Bass, WV, and was the daughter of the late Loring Dacey Wolfe and Dora Catherine (Whetzel) Wolfe. In addition to her parents, Elouise was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Marsh Cowger, Sr., one brother, Clyde Wolfe, and sister-in-law Anna P. Wolfe.

Elouise attended the Bass School as a young girl and earned her high school diploma later in life. She was a life long resident of Hardy County until the death of her husband in 2008, after which time she divided her time between her home in Moorefield and the home of her son, Ivan Cowger Jr. in Daytona Beach, FL.

Elouise moved to the Moorefield area after marrying her husband, Ivan and worked at Harrison’s Restaurant. She later went on to work for Pierce Precooked Foods as one of the original workers hired by Mr. Del Hester when he started the company that is today Pilgrim's Pride. Elouise retired from Hester Industries in 1993.

Elouise loved to visit with family and friends, and a highlight of every year for her was attending family reunions. She cherished her Wolfe Mountain heritage and loved to tell stories of life growing up on "The Mountain." She would tell stories of hard work, as well as happy times, as she shared life on the mountain with her grandparents, parents, brothers and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins. All were descendants of Adam Wolfe, who originally settled on Wolfe Mountain.

Elouise was a cherished friend and neighbor to many. Anyone who passed through her door was greeted with a warm smile, a hug, and a glass of iced tea. Her loving hospitality was extended to everyone. And once Elouise knew you, she treated you like family.

Elouise enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, and sewing. She and her mother Dora sewed many quilts together over the years. After Elouise retired, she and her husband Ivan enjoyed traveling with their son, Ivan Jr, and his family.
