Gary Foster

October 25, 2006 — April 16, 2024

Old Fields, WV

Gary Ottley Foster, 17, of Moorefield, WV passed from this life on April 16, 2024, as the result of a motor vehicle accident.   Gary was a member of the Class of 2025 at Moorefield High School and a student at South Branch Career & Technical Center where he was pursuing a degree in nursing.

Although Gary’s life ended much too quickly, in the time he was with us, he grew to be passionate about many things.  First and foremost, he loved his family and friends. Other than spending time or traveling with his family and girlfriend, nothing pleased Gary more than when a group of his friends would get together and play a game of Dungeons and Dragons.   The quests could sometimes last all night.

Another of his passions was learning about sword play and medieval history.  As a result, he discovered and joined the Iron Lions United.  This sports club located in Fairfax, VA provides training, events, and resources to participate in the sport of medieval armored combat called “Buhurt.” Gary, aka Garmond the Dragonheart, was lucky enough to become the youngest member of this group and travel with them as far away as Germany to do demonstrations and tournaments.

Gary loved to play soccer.  He began playing in the Tiny Tots soccer in Berkeley County, WV when he was 5.  He continued to play in the Potomac Highlands Youth Soccer League until he aged out. He then worked as a referee for the same organization.

He was a proud member of the Moorefield High School Band in which he was a trumpet player.  He enjoyed the football half-time shows, the concerts, but mostly he enjoyed the other band members who he counted among his friends.

He was a member of the Moorefield High School Track Team.  He competed in several track events. He earned a spot at the WV State Track Competition two years as a member of the 4 X 400 relay teams.

Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents Gary and Jan Butts of Moorefield, WV and his paternal grandmother, Idalia Foster of Potomac Station, VA formerly from Bridgetown, Barbados.

Gary was survived by his parents Larry and Melissa (Butts) Foster and a brother Dane Foster of Moorefield, WV.  He is also survived by his girlfriend Alana Davis of Petersburg, WV.  His aunts were Jennifer Butts of Moorefield WV; Andrea Foster of Potomac Station, VA; and Maxine Squires of Bridgetown, Barbados. His paternal grandfather is Ottley Foster of Potomac Station, VA formally from Bridgetown, Barbados. In addition, he had numerous cousins and extended family members.

A Service of Remembrance will be held beginning at 6:00 PM Monday, April 29, 2024, at the Believers Victory Center, 160 Victory Lane, Moorefield, WV with Pastors Dan Howard & Rich Sparks as officiants. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until the time of service at 6:00 PM.

Memorials in his memory can be made to the Moorefield Track Project Fundraiser, c/o Moorefield Athletic Boosters, PO Box 1156, Moorefield, WV 26836. Expressions of condolences, shared memories and cherished photographs may be left on Gary’s Tribute Wall at www.fraleyfuneralhome.com honoring his remarkable journey and the impact he made in the lives of those he touched.
