Gloria Ruth Barrington, aged 91, of Old Fields, WV, will be heading to her well-deserved eternal resting place. She passed away on a peaceful Saturday morning, April 13, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her cherished family. Born on June 9, 1932, in Washington, DC, Gloria was the daughter of the late Henry and Pearl May Schinzel. Her husband, Thomas Wesley Barrington, and three of her children, Thomas Jr, and Tina Louise, stepdaughter Linda Barrington Fay, have already embarked on their own journeys.
Gloria adored her cozy mountain home, where she dedicated herself to her garden, birdwatching, and shooing away the occasional bear from her porch. An avid reader and a culinary genius, she also selflessly rolled bandages for returning WWII troops in her younger years. She and her husband, a former military serviceman, traveled far and wide, making friends and memories wherever they went. Their shared passion for sailing led them to own a sailboat and venture across the open waters.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Echo C. Aven of Old Fields, WV, and her son, Stephen A. Caldwell of Chambersburg, PA. Gloria also leaves behind beloved grandchildren, Tina Marie, Heather, Ryan, Dawn, Larry, Bo and Kylie, as well as a multitude of great grandchildren and several great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by half-brothers Louis, Gregory, and Jeffrey Schinzel.
Gloria's journey on this Earth may have ended, but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be cremated, with private services to be held later.
