Harlan Delano Hott

September 11, 1933 — July 14, 2019

Harlan Delano Hott, 85, formerly of Moorefield, WV passed away July 14, 2019.  Harlan was born September 11, 1933 in McCauley, WV to the late Donald E. and Edna Poland Hott. Harlan was inducted into the Moorefield High School Athletics Hall of Fame as a three-sport athlete for the Class of 1952. He received his Bachelor of Education, with a double major in Biology and Physical Education from Shepherd University and Master’s Degree in Secondary School Administration from Hampton University.  He later went on to take courses at William and Mary, Old Dominion University, Virginia Tech, UVA and Washington University for a Masters Plus.

 

After teaching and coaching football at Franklin High School for two years, the family moved to Virginia where “Coach Hott” taught for 29 years at Newport News High School and Ferguson High School and coached football, baseball, basketball and golf. Harlan enjoyed playing golf and woodturning. He was a member of the Woodturners of the Virginias, and the American Association of Woodturners. He served his country faithfully in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion and VFW.  Harlan was an active member of Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church.

 

Left to cherish his memory is loving wife, Joan S. Hott; his three daughters, Cynthia Hott Inman and her husband Jeff, Nancy Hott Terrell and her husband John, Lori Hott Anderson and her husband Brent; two sons, Robert W. Hott and his wife Wanda, Michael D. Hott and his wife Kim; 13 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Halterman, and his brothers, Warden, George, and Wendell.  

 

A Service of Remembrance will be held beginning at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Jeff Inman as officiant. The family will receive friends beginning at noon 12:00 PM prior to services.
