Helen Ann Chambers, age 100 of Moorefield, WV, passed away on Thursday morning, June 19, 2025, in Columbus, OH. Born January 3, 1925, in Cumberland, Md, she was the daughter of the late Edward Henry Pendergast and Bernadette Regina Bell Pendergast. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, George Kenny Chambers, with whom she shared 49 joyful years. Helen was also preceded in death by her three brothers, Edward, Charles, and Joseph, and her two sisters, Mary Margaret Walley and Bernadette Kirby.
She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews, and dear friends Leona Reynolds and Shelia Champ, along with her devoted caregiver and friend Wanda McPeake.
Helen's zest for life was complemented by her unwavering dedication to nursing, having graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD after graduating from St. Peter’s High School in Westernport, MD. Her remarkable career included being instrumental in establishing the first student health clinic at Potomac State College in 1958. A quick move to Moorefield led her to a brief stint at Grant Memorial Hospital before she took on a more familial role at family-owned Chambers Funeral Home, where she helped support her husband.
An active and spirited member of Epiphany Catholic Church, Helen contributed significantly to the Worship, Financial, and Pastoral Councils, showcasing her commitment to her faith and community. As a charter member of the Valley View Golf Club, she found joy on the golf course and in the excitement of Duplicate Bridge games, where laughter and camaraderie thrived.
Although we will miss her dearly, we plan to celebrate Helen's extraordinary life with love and remembrance. Inurnment services will be held at Olivet Cemetery in the coming weeks, and details will be shared soon. We invite all who knew and loved Helen to join us in honoring her vibrant spirit and the profound impact she had on each of us.
