Jimmy Sherman, Sr.

June 26, 1938 — October 25, 2025

Milam, WV

Jimmy Faye Sherman, Sr. age 87 of Milam, WV was embraced by his Heavenly Father on Saturday afternoon, October 25th, 2025. Jimmy was born on June 26th, 1938, in Moorefield, WV, to the late Brownley Homer Sherman and Ethel Virginia (Southerly) Sherman.

Jimmy was a devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was an active member of Mt. Carmel Church of the Brethren, where his rich voice led the congregation in song for many years. Jimmy was a man of many skills and trades. He had worked both blue- and white-collar jobs. Jimmy retired from a 20-year career with Pilgrims Pride as a feed truck driver. But Jimmy was never one to let grass grow under his feet. Not long after retirement he went to work part-time at Ponderosa Steakhouse, alongside his beloved wife, Anna Mae.

Those who knew Jimmy will fondly recall his love for the great outdoors. In his younger years he spent countless hours hunting, fishing and admiring the beauty of nature. Jimmy was also known for his self-sufficiency and resourcefulness. Every year, he and his wife, Anna Mae, grew a prosperous garden. They would harvest and preserve the fruits of their labor with pride knowing they would also be sharing their bounty amongst their family and friends. Once the summer harvest was over it was on to harvesting black walnuts. Year round he kept himself busy. He could never be idle for too long. Whether it be managing his vegetable gardens or repairing his lawn mowers, and everything in between, he loved to grow, craft, fix and tinker. He also loved to laugh and crack jokes. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and corn-hole, and once the day was over you could guarantee a western is what would be put on tv.

Jimmy is preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters: Allen Sherman, Lawrence Sherman, and Daniel Sherman, Betty Berrett, Martha Lee Hartman, and Helen Coppe.

Jimmy’s surviving loved ones include his wife, of 65 years, Anna Mae (Zirk) Sherman; his children, Jimmy F. (Melinda) Sherman, Jr. of Moorefield, WV, Deborah Sherman Phares of Milam, WV, Kenneth B. (Cheryl) Sherman of Old Fields, WV, and Teresa (Rob) Borror of Petersburg, WV; eight grandchildren, Tiffany Phares-Suders (Rich), Travis Phares (Desiree), Kelsey Sherman (Justin), Kendall Sherman, Tyler Borror, Ryan Borror (Jennell), Rashay Borror Moser (Kadin), and Trent Borror; two step-grandchildren, Jason Fertig and Dana Fertig; three great-grandchildren, Asher, Huxley and Rowan ; a brother, Ronald O. (Shirley) Sherman, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive family and friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with the Funeral Services starting at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 31, 2025, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Pastor Harold Cullers and Rob Borror officiants.
