Johnnie William Stump Sr

Rev. Johnnie William Stump Sr., age 81 of Moorefield, WV passed away Tuesday morning, July 11, 2023 at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA. Born on July 27, 1941 in Moorefield, WV, he was a son of the late Hiram Glenn Stump and Mary Virginia (Southerly) Stump. Also, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Blake Kimble, two brothers and one sister.

Johnnie was a Minister for sixty plus years, Pastoring the Harpers Chapel Church of Brethren in Moorefield for the last several years. He was previously an EMT for six years for Valley Medical Transport.

Surviving is his wife, Sally Arlene Armentrout Stump; two sons, Hiram (Kimberly) Stump of Burlington, WV and Johnnie (Michael) Stump Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Carol Stump and Gloria Helmick, both of Moorefield, WV; a brother, Randall Stump of Moorefield, WV; three sisters, Margy Wratchford, Peggy Stump and Frances Riggleman, all of Moorefield, WV; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Johnnie, along with his wife, Arlene, had fostered eighty plus children and adults throughout their lives, as well as had children from New York with the Fresh Air Fund. He was a past member of the Potomac Valley Men’s Choir. Johnnie loved spending time with his family, hunting and fishing. He was also a Hunter Education Instructor for Hardy and Grant Counties and helped build chicken houses for Purdue. 

He will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
