Joshua Kenneth Shortt

Joshua Kenneth Shortt, age 39, of Shepherdstown, WV and formerly of Purcellville, VA passed away Monday, September 27, 2021 at his residence. Born on January 26, 1982 in Leesburg, VA he was the son of the late Lallia Shortt Dingess of Old Fields, WV and David Beardsley of Centerville, TN. He was raised by his father, Brian “Keith” Shortt of Frederick, MD from the age of two. Josh was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Kenneth Snyder.

Josh was a graduate of Loudoun Valley High School. He was happiest when he was with his sons, who he loved dearly, listening to and making music, or talking about his days as a volunteer firefighter with the Purcellville Volunteer Fire Company.

In addition to his fathers, Josh is survived by his wife, Ashley Shortt, their two sons, Ashton and Aaron, and stepdaughter, Sierra of Shepherdstown, WV. Also surviving is his sister, Jessica Dupy (husband, Zach Dupy) and nephew, Ryan of Frederick, MD; his beloved grandmother, Betty Jean Snyder of Old Fields, WV; aunt, Paula Miller and uncle, David “Boo” Miller of Moorefield, WV and uncle, Paul Snyder of Fisher, WV. Josh is also survived by his brother, David and 4 sisters, Valerie, Jennifer, Amy, and Lisa of the Beardsley family, He is also survived by his paternal grandparents James and Arline Beardsley of Mt. Pleasant, TN, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 2, 2021 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Christopher L. Whetzel officiant. Interment will follow in the Kessel Cemetery, near Fisher, WV. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 12:00-2:00 pm at the funeral home prior to services.

Due to the current COVID-19 recommendations, wearing of masks and social distancing by individuals unvaccinated is recommended.
