Kathleen W. Puffenberger

September 10, 1924 — July 27, 2025

Moorefield

Kathleen Puffenberger, age 100, of Moorefield, WV, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025. Born on September 10, 1924, in Bass, West Virginia, Kathleen lived a remarkable century marked by love, creativity, and dedicated service to her family and community.

In October 1941, Kathleen married her childhood sweetheart, Ernest Puffenberger. Ernest owned and operated a jewelry store in Moorefield until he was called to serve in World War II from 1943 to 1946. During that time, Kathleen worked in Washington, D.C., supporting the war effort. After the war, they returned to Moorefield and settled into the home they would share for the rest of their lives.

Together they raised two children: Marcia, born in 1947, and Craig, born in 1961. Ernest passed away in 2005, but Kathleen’s devotion to their shared life continued; she kept the jewelry store open until 2013, serving the Moorefield community for many more years.

Kathleen was known for her talent as an artist — her original paintings won numerous local awards and were even featured in West Virginia Magazine. She was also an avid bowler for many years, often alongside Ernest, and loved her weekly bridge games with dear friends. A woman of faith and service, Kathleen was a Worthy Matron in the Eastern Star and served for years on the board of trustees at Duffey Memorial Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Eye of Jacksonville, Florida, married to Earl Eye, with their son Bradley; and her son, Craig Puffenberger of Roxbury, Connecticut, married to Janet Janssen, with their son Alexander.

A Visitation will be held at Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield on Friday, August 1, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place at Duffey Memorial Methodist Church in Moorefield on Saturday, August 2, at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Olivet Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at the church after the ceremony.

Kathleen will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, artistic spirit, and deep commitment to family, faith, and community. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew her.
