Loring Lawson Hines, Jr., mostly known as Junior, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 27, 2023, at the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA. He was 90 years old. Born on June 11, 1933, in Moorefield, WV, Junior was the cherished son of Loring Lawson Hines, Sr. and Ruth Esther Funkhouser Hines.

 

Junior was a proud graduate of Moorefield High School, Class of 1951, and went on to pursue higher education at Potomac State College, where he graduated in 1953. He continued his studies at West Virginia University and later attended the prestigious Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, earning his degree in 1958.

 

His dedication to providing compassionate support during times of loss led him to a career in funeral directing. Junior began his professional journey at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bluefield, WV, later serving communities in Welch and Grafton. Ultimately, he settled in the Elkins area, serving families at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home until his retirement in 1997. Always with an unwavering commitment to his hometown, Junior returned to Moorefield to care for his elderly parents, lovingly devoting himself to their well-being. He also became a valued member of the Fraley Funeral Home staff, ensuring that his community received the utmost care during their most difficult moments.

 

While Junior was an only child, he formed deep and lifelong friendships that became his chosen family. His best friends, Jeff Fraley and Rodney Weese, and their respective families, stood by him through thick and thin. Junior's numerous cousins also held a special place in his heart, creating a tightly knit family bond that brought him joy and support throughout his life.

 

A celebration of Junior's life will take place on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, located at 107 Washington Street in Moorefield. Retired Pastor Katherine Jackson will officiate the service, offering words of comfort and remembrance. Interment will follow the service in Olivet Cemetery where he will be laid to eternal rest next to his mother. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday evening, January 1, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

 

In honor of Junior's memory, memorial contributions can be made to the Moorefield Presbyterian Church. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 653, Moorefield, WV 26836, as a testament to Junior's faith and his commitment to his community.

 

The legacy of Loring Lawson Hines, Jr. will forever be imprinted on the hearts of those he touched. His compassionate and unwavering dedication to serving grieving families will be deeply missed. May he find eternal peace and may his memory continue to inspire acts of love and support within our community.
