Loyd Dailey Whiteman, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on August 14, 1932, in Purgitsville, WV, to Phillip Rosser Whiteman and Carrie Elizabeth Shoemaker Whiteman, Loyd touched the lives of many with his kind heart and warm smile. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Loyd Eugene Whiteman, three brothers and a sister. His brother Orville passed away the day after Loyd.

 

Loyd proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of both the American Legion and the V.F.W. He found joy in attending estate sales and had a passion for collecting "hidden treasures" which he lovingly considered his treasures. Loyd had an adventurous spirit and spent many happy days outdoors fishing, hunting, and farming. He was always game for attending local gun bashes and turkey shoots.

 

Loyd will be remembered for his warm and loving presence, always ready with a joke or a helping hand. He cherished his time spent with family and friends, creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever.

 

Loyd is survived by his loving daughter, Janet (Bobby) Runion, who held a special place in his heart. He adored his two grandchildren, Bobby Lee Runion, Jr. and Samantha (HC) Nicholas and great-grandchildren, Dacoata Andrew Grubb, Jazmyn Nicole Marie Grubb, and Victoria Arain Grubb, sharing his wisdom and love with them, inspiring them to live their lives to the fullest. Loyd is also survived by his sisters, Norma Westfall and Juanita Wratchford, who were his pillars of support and comfort throughout his life, along with a special Niece, Beverly Keiter and a special friend Mary Collett.

 

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Loyd's remarkable life and offer their final respects at the funeral services, which will take place on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at 1:00 PM. The services will be held at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, located at 107 Washington Street with Pastor John Dolly officiant, paying homage to Loyd's life and the impact he had on those around him.

 

Loyd will be laid to rest in the Old Pine Church Cemetery at 2:30 PM Monday, January 29, 2024. The U.S. Army and Moorefield Veterans Honor Guard will provide Military Graveside Rites, recognizing Loyd's service to his country with the dignity and respect he deserves.

 

During this time of remembrance, the family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Tuesday, allowing the opportunity for loved ones to come together, share stories, and find solace in the memories of a life well-lived.

 

Memorials may be directed to the family c/o 293 Keiter Lane, Upper Tract, WV 26866. Expressions of condolences, shared memories and cherished photographs may be left on Loyd’s Tribute Wall at www.fraleyfuneralhome.com honoring his remarkable journey and the impact he made in the lives of those he touched.
