Mary Catherine Barr

Mary Catherine Barr, age 79 of Willow Tree Drive, Moorefield, WV passed away Friday evening, July 7, 2017 at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV. Born on February 18, 1938 in Petersburg, WV, she was a daughter of the late Henry Clay Harman and Effie (May) Harman. A grandson, Joey Ludwig, a sister, E. Lucille Thomas and two brothers, William Harman and Homer Harman preceded her in death. She was a member of the Oak Dale Christian Church, read her Bible daily and had played piano in the church and local funeral homes for many years beginning when she was only 11 years old. A Registered Nurse, she had retired from the South Branch Career and Technical Center in Petersburg after 23 years as an Instructor in the Nursing Assistants programs. She started her nursing career at Grant Memorial Hospital and eventually became the nursing supervisor of the operating rooms. After many years she transferred to the Veach-Townsend clinic before becoming an instructor. She enjoyed her flowers, crossword puzzles, playing cards, travelling with her husband on his many trips, but her pride and joy were her grandchildren. Surviving is her husband she married on April 13, 1958, Loring E. Barr; a son, Joseph & Teresa Barr of Petersburg, WV; two daughters, Lori & Dennis Evans of Moorefield, WV and Suzanne & John Davis of Moorefield, WV; six grandchildren, Amber Barr, Meredith Evans, William Barr, Taylor Evans, Leah Jo Davis and Levi Davis; a great-grandson, Jaxon Kile and three sisters, Ernestine Harman and Rosalee Yutzy of Petersburg, WV and Nora Turner of Robbinsville, NC. Funeral Services will be conducted 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with the Rev. Lynn Rohrbaugh officiating. Interment will follow at the Newhouse Cemetery, Rig Road, Moorefield, WV. The family will receive friends from 4 7 PM Monday at the funeral home.
