Bolingbrook, IL

Mary Virginia McDonald, affectionately known as "Ginger," peacefully passed away on December 31, 2023. She was born on August 18, 1943, in Moorefield, WV, to the late Harry "Jim" Holt Vetter, Jr. and Bernice "Evelyn" Ours Vetter.

Throughout her life, Ginger spread love and joy to all who knew her. She married the love of her life, Sheldon McDonald, in 1959, and together, they created a loving home in Lyons, Illinois. They were blessed with three children and cherished 40 wonderful years of marriage until Sheldon's passing in 1999.

Ginger was a hardworking individual who held various jobs over the years, but her true passion lay in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed spending time in her yard, tending to her beautiful garden, and nurturing her beloved roses. She had a talent for sewing and took pride in her creations. Ginger's kind heart extended to her family, and she delighted in spoiling her grandchildren.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Ginger is survived by her two children, Gene (Kathryn) McDonald and Cindi (James) Kolodziej, who will forever hold her close in their hearts. Her memory will also be treasured by her five cherished grandchildren, Brian (Tavia) McDonald, Ian (Angelique) McDonald, Jennifer McDonald, Kristen McDonald, Jordan (Tanner) Hanley, and seven precious great-grandchildren, Tristan and Julian McDonald, Philip and Isabella Mitchell, and Sawyer, Riley, and Flynn King.

She will be dearly missed by her sister, Una (Delmas) See, her brothers, Harry "Skeet" (Barbara) Vetter, III and John (Donna) Vetter, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Bernice Vetter, her loving husband, Sheldon, and her beloved son, Sheldon Jr.

A celebration of Ginger's remarkable life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Arnold Cemetery in Junction, WV. The graveside funeral services, officiated by her brother, John M. Vetter, will begin at 10:00 AM. Following the services, a heartfelt interment will take place.

Today, we celebrate the life of Mary Virginia "Ginger" McDonald, a beacon of love, kindness, and simplicity. May her spirit forever guide us and her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration as we carry her legacy in our hearts.
