Mary Elizabeth Ratliff

Mary Elizabeth Ratliff, age 88 of North Elm St., Moorefield, WV, passed away Saturday evening, February 14, 2015 in Petersburg, WV. Born March 3, 1926 at Ft. Run, Moorefield, WV, she was the daughter of the late James Cleveland Shockey and Sarah Catherine (Hose) Shockey. Her husband, Russel F. Ratliff, Sr., preceded her in death in February 1994. Three sisters and three brothers also preceded her in death. Surviving is a son, Russell F. & Tracey Ratliff, Jr. of Moorefield, WV; a daughter, Janet C. & Warren Kessel of Moorefield, WV; a brother, Donald Shockey of Moorefield, WV; a sister, Edna Pauline Baldwin of Baltimore, MD; six grandchildren, Eric & Jaime Ratliff, Ben & Becca Ratliff, Marissa Ratliff, Hannah Ratliff, Laurel & Stephen Chambers and Myra Kessel and two great-grandchildren, Harper & Rowan. Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington St., with Pastor Robert Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at the Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. A 55+ year member of the Moorefield Church of the Brethren, she was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Adult Sunday School Class for 30+ years. An avid reader and sports fan, she attended many MHS sporting events with her grandchildren and when unable to attend she would listen to them on the radio. Her love of sports was just not locally; as she was a devout New York Yankees fan as well as a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. In her youth she loved to dance, enjoyed family cookouts with the family but her pride and joy were her grandchildren. Not only did she care about their education, but she enjoyed her time with them. Like her family, she enjoyed later in life taking her neighbors to their appointments, to McDonalds for bingo or just to the grocery store.
