Matthew Gipson Gapp

Matthew Gipson Gapp, age 87 of Fisher, WV passed peacefully Thursday evening, November 29, 2018 at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester, VA, surrounded by his wife and three daughters. Born on June 5, 1931 in Frosty Hollow at Fisher, WV, he was a son of the late Matthew Frank “Shank” Gapp and Dora Elizabeth Watts Gapp. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Allen Mongold. Matthew was a lifelong farmer, poultry farmer and beef producer. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War.

On June 6, 1959 he married Patricia Ann Turley and they have three daughters; Constance (Mike) Thomas of Moorefield, WV, Diana (Bobby Jack) Harman of Petersburg, WV and Melanie Mongold of Moorefield, WV. Also surviving are grandchildren, Michael Renee Thomas Lane, Kaleah Lynise Thomas, Trevor Dylan Harman, Trad Austin Harman, Matthew Paul Mongold and Kennan D’Allen Mongold. Additionally he is survived by a sister, Patsy Delores Gapp Hudson of Williamsport, MD and a brother, Conrad Stephen Gapp of Moorefield, WV.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held beginning at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at the Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church, 2029 SR 55, Moorefield, WV with Father Josh Stevens as celebrant. Interment will follow with Military Graveside Rites Accorded by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Moorefield Veteran’s Honor Guard at the Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield, WV. The family will receive friends from 4 – 7 PM Monday, December 3, 2018 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street and a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM.
