Melanie Beth Shoemaker, age 51 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Monday morning, September 28, 2026, at her residence. Born on January 30, 1975, in Petersburg, WV, she was the daughter of Dixie "Allen" Shoemaker of Wardensville, WV and Bonnie Lou Evans Barkley of Moorefield, WV. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Herbert “Buster” Evans and paternal grandparents, Dixie Shoemaker and Helen Heavner.

Melanie worked as the manager of the local Dollar Tree, where she was a familiar and welcoming presence in her community. Outside of work, Melanie was a true rockhound who loved searching for unique stones and treasures, or enjoying a peaceful day of fishing, she embraced each moment with joy and curiosity. She had a creative spirit and enjoyed crafts, exploring flea markets, and traveling to new places. She found joy in the little discoveries along the way and cherished the memories made on every adventure. Melanie's warmth, creativity, and love of life will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her two sons, Brian Helmick of Palmyra, VA, and Preston Helmick, of Moorefield, WV; three grandchildren; a brother, Nathan Shoemaker (Michelle) of Lahmansville, WV; maternal grandmother, Priscilla Evans and her faithful four-legged companion, Trooper.

To celebrate the beautiful life she lived, a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, located at 107 Washington Street. The family will welcome friends starting at 5:00 PM until the time of the service, inviting everyone to share in laughter, stories, and fond memories of Melanie. Pastor Lynn Rohrbaugh will officiate the ceremony, honoring her vibrant spirit and the impact she made on all around her.
