Paul Lenwood Kite, a distinguished military veteran and beloved member of the community, peacefully passed away on October 31, 2023, at the age of 93 in his Fairfax, VA home. Born on October 18, 1930, in Dorcas, WV, he was the cherished son of the late Lester Lenwood Kite and Eunice Jane Jenkins Kite. A sister, Frances Pauline Vance also preceded him in death.
Survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Emogene Robinette Kite, Paul leaves behind a legacy of devotion and strength. Their enduring marriage was a true testament to their commitment and love. He also leaves behind his daughter, Debby (Norm) Boyd, his son, David (Julie) Kite, and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the joy of his life. Paul will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by his sister, Sue K. Halterman, his brother, Jack (Leda) Kite, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends.
Paul proudly served his country for 32 years in the military, retiring with the rank of Colonel in 1983. Throughout his distinguished career, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam, as well as assignments in Japan, Korea, Augsburg, Germany, and Berlin, Germany. He also served in various roles across the United States. Following his retirement, Paul utilized his expertise and experiences as a manager for State Department property at Charles E. Smith. Later, he dedicated his time and energy to Home Depot, contributing to the success of the company.
A man of deep faith and unwavering commitment, Paul held his family, church, work, and his cherished camp and land in the Moorefield area close to his heart. His unwavering dedication and strong moral compass were an inspiration to those who knew him.
Funeral Services to honor Paul's life and legacy will be held on 11:00 AM, Friday November 10, 2023, at St. Georges United Methodist Church, located at 4910 Ox Road, Fairfax, VA. A fellowship luncheon will be held beginning at 12:00 PM after the conclusion of the service. The interment, with Full Military Honors, will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest.
