Richard Allen Hawse

December 6, 1939 — December 9, 2014

Dr. Richard (Dick) Allen Hawse, age 75 of Orange Park FL, passed away on December 9, 2014 from complications arising from a stroke. He was born in Washington DC on December 6, 1939. Dick completed undergraduate studies at Duke University in 1961 and subsequently completed dental school at the University of Maryland in 1965. He served on active duty in the U.S. Navy as an oral surgeon for more than 20 years and retired at the rank of Commander in 1992. He served on numerous vessels and traveled extensively throughout his naval career. Dick was a lifelong athlete, playing championship volleyball his entire military career and stayed active and physically fit until the time of his death. Dick's retriever, Clancy, was his introduction to family life. He then increased his family with his Arabian horse, Tivo. He greatly enjoyed spending hours training and riding. His family was finally complete when the lifelong bachelor took a wife, Diana, in 2013. He was a fall visitor to Bean Settlement WV, where he would spend time hunting deer and visiting with family. Dick will be remembered for his warm personality, quick wit, and brilliant sense of humor. His father Herbert W. Hawse, formerly from Bean Settlement WV, and his mother Hazel (Caricofe) Hawse preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife Diana, stepdaughter Christina, stepson Michael and several cousins including Billy B. Doman, Thomas J. Hawse III, Herbert E. Hawse, Dixie Lee Hawse Jackson, and Marian Hawse Marshall. Pastor Loretta Brinker will conduct a funeral service at Asbury United Methodist Church in Bean Settlement WV on December 17, 2014, at 1:00 PM with a viewing beginning at noon. Thomas J. Hawse III, Herbert E. Hawse, Paul Miller, David B. Doman and Michael Pratten will serve as pallbearers. Interment will occur at Asbury Cemetery adjacent to the church with Full Military Honors accorded by the U.S. Navy.
