Richard Carl Smith

Richard Carl “Rick” Smith, age 68 passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023 at his home in Petersburg, WV. Born on May 4, 1954, in Keyser, WV, he was the son of the late Reuben Joseph Smith and Edith Mae Sine Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Smith and a much-loved nephew, Brandon Weese.

Surviving is a brother, Joe (Ginger) Smith of Kessel, WV; a sister, Linda (Bill) Keller of Fisher, WV; a lifelong friend, Mike Sites. Also surviving are his much-loved nieces and nephews, David (Julie) Alexander, Angie (Steve) Dawson, Vickie Mace, Matthew (Kristi) Smith, Mark (Amy) Smith and JoAnna (Harry) Timbrook; five great-nephews; five great-nieces; two great-great-nieces and his two much loved cats, Dagney and Anastasia.

Rick graduated from Moorefield High School in 1972, went on to WV University and graduated with three degrees. He was an instructor at WVU then began employment with the Federal and State governments until his retirement. Rick was very passionate about the welfare of all animals, helping friends and strangers, whoever needed shelter and food.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date.
