Ruth B. Dodds

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ruth Bassett Dodds, who left this world peacefully on September 16, 2025, at the impressive age of 106, at Hampshire Long Term Care in Romney, WV. Born on July 16, 1919, in New Britain, CT, Ruth was the cherished daughter of William Edward Bassett and Violet Fuhrer Bassett. 

Ruth was a remarkable woman whose life was filled with service, dedication, and love. She proudly served in the Navy, where her commitment and bravery earned her a place etched on the wall at Arlington National Cemetery. After her honorable service, she found her calling at Sikorsky Aircraft, dedicating many years to her career and retiring with a wealth of experience and stories.

A devout Catholic, Ruth was a long-time member of St. Andrews Church in Bridgeport, CT, where she found community and solace in her faith. After retiring, she made her way to Florida, where she embraced life, exploring new friendships and adventures with the vibrant social groups she joined.

Ruth's legacy lives on through her loving family: daughter Judith Kernaghan, son-in-law Jack Kernaghan, granddaughter Jennifer Bittar and her husband William, step-grandson Kris Kernaghan and his wife Dawn, and a wonderful circle of cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Dodds. Ruth, with her inspiring journey, will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love and service will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
