Tamara Lynn “Tammie” Markwood Helmick Ayers, age 57, of Moorefield, WV, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, May 5, 2024, at her residence with her loving family by her side. Tammie, born on November 22, 1966, in Winchester, VA, was the daughter of Ronald W. & Linda Sions Markwood of Purgitsville, WV. Preceding her in death were her son, Kyle Helmick, maternal grandparents, Edgar & Nellie Sions, and paternal grandparents, Warfield & Naomi Markwood.

 

A compassionate woman, Tammie dedicated 20 years of her life to teaching at Hardy County Schools, imparting knowledge at Moorefield Middle, Intermediate, and High Schools. She also spent seven years coaching the Moorefield High School softball team and many years as coach of the middle school volleyball team. Her creative spirit shone through her love for art and woodworking, and her passion for nature was evident in her fondness for kayaking, fishing, and gardening. Toes in the sand brought immeasurable happiness to her soul.

 

An invaluable treasure to Tammie was her family, whom she adored and cherished above all else. Surviving Tammie is her devoted husband, Brian “Rusty” Ayers; her son, Logan (Shayna) Helmick; stepson, Hunter Ayers; daughter-in-law, Tasha (Drew) Morgan; grandson, Parker Helmick; granddaughters, Aydriana & Roselyn Helmick; siblings, Chip (Karen) Markwood, Kevin (Becky) Markwood, Brett (Alicia) Markwood, and Julie Markwood; along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.

 

Funeral services for Tammie will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel located at 107 Washington Street. The services will be officiated by Pastors Eugene Whetzel, Mike Funkhouser, and Wade Armentrout. Following the service, interment will take place at the Elijah High Cemetery, Route 220 North, Junction, WV. The family will be receiving guests on Tuesday from 4 – 7 PM at the funeral home.

 

The family kindly asks for memorial donations to be directed to the Autym M. Wilt Scholarship Fund at 411 Boxwood Drive, Purgitsville, WV 26852, or the Joy Snyder Coby Foundation, Inc. at 1508 Hutter Road, Fisher, WV 26818.
